Frequently Asked Questions
Operator & Engineering FAQ
Everything you need to know about deploying SimplePlay Pro X on your production rig.
Does SimplePlay Pro X require an internet connection during a show?
No. SimplePlay Pro X is strictly 100% offline-first. Once installed, it never phones home or requires network connectivity to playback cues, render compositor tracks, or route outputs. Your show booth remains completely air-gapped and secure.
Which Mac models and macOS versions are supported?
SimplePlay Pro X requires Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 across Base, Pro, Max, and Ultra) and macOS 15.0 Sequoia or later. It runs as a 100% native arm64 application specifically tuned for Apple Silicon Unified Memory and the Metal 3 GPU pipeline.
How many video outputs can I route simultaneously?
There is no arbitrary software limit. You can route as many canvas slices and physical displays as your Mac hardware supports via HDMI, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt docks, Blackmagic DeckLink / UltraStudio SDI cards, and uncompressed NDI IP streams.
How does the 64-channel audio matrix work with Dante / AES67?
SimplePlay Pro X connects directly to the macOS CoreAudio subsystem. It automatically recognizes any multi-channel audio interface—including Audinate Dante Virtual Soundcard, AES67 drivers, and professional USB/Thunderbolt soundcards—allowing per-clip cross-point matrix routing with individual gain trims.
Can I trigger cues and emergency overrides from a Stream Deck or lighting desk?
Yes. SimplePlay Pro X includes bidirectional OSC control, Art-Net DMX512 universe listening, MIDI Time Code (MTC) chasing, and a Bitfocus Companion module for Stream Deck button triggers and dynamic status tally feedback.
What video codecs and file formats are recommended for optimal performance?
For multi-layer transparent compositing, Apple ProRes 422 / 4444 (with Alpha) and NotchLC offer zero CPU overhead. For high-density playback, hardware-accelerated HEVC 10-bit and H.264 are decoded directly via the Apple Silicon Media Engine.
